Introduction

The purpose of this study is to give scriptural insight and understanding of God’s plan for man from his original creation, fall, redemption, and restoration of his wonderful purpose.

This study was prepared in the form of question and comment, it is important to study all the scriptural references, make personal notes from them, and then read the comments that followed the question. All scriptural references are taken from the New King James Version of the Bible unless otherwise stated. The keyword or words in the reference verses are highlighted for you to have some words to think and meditate upon.

To gain the knowledge God intends, asked Him to open your understanding to the scriptures you read. Remove your mind from any preconceived opinion, and focus on what the scriptures say. Be like the Bereans Christians who studied the scriptures to be sure what they heard were true.

THE FALL OF MAN

What was the only commandment given to man when God placed him in the garden of Eden?

Read: Genesis 2:15-17

 Comment:

The only commandment God gave to man was not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Scriptural Reference

Genesis 2:15-17

Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

 What is sin?

 Read: I John 3:4, 1 John 3:4

Comment:

Sin is the breaking of the law of God. It means to deviate from a way, path or law; to fail to live up to a standard. It also means “to go off a path, fall or slip aside “miss the mark. When you break any commandments of God, you commit sin.

Scriptural References

I John 3:4

“Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.”

1 John 3:4 GNB

“Whoever sins is guilty of breaking God’s law, because sin is a breaking of the law.”

What was the ultimate result of Man’s disobedience to the commandment of God?

Read: Genesis 2: 16-17, Romans 6:23, James 1:13-15, Romans 5:12, Ephesians 2:1, Ezekiel 18:4, 20

Comment:

God says man (soul) will die if he disobeys his commandment. The ultimate consequence of disobedience is death. Death entered the human race because of the sin of one man, and death spread over all human beings. The reward one receives after sinning is death.

Scriptural References

Genesis 2: 16-17

“Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.””

Romans 6:23

“For the wages of sin is death,”

James 1:13-15

“Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.”

Romans 5:12

“Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned”

 Ephesians 2:1

“And you He has made alive who were dead in trespasses and sins.”

Ezekiel 18:4, 20

“Behold, all souls are Mine; The soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is Mine; The soul who sins shall die.

The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself.”

What are the other consequences of Man’s disobedience to God’s commandment?

Read: Isaiah 59:1-2, Genesis 3:24, Genesis 3:17, Deuteronomy 28:15, John 5:7, 9, 14, Mark 2: 1-10, John 8:34, Ephesians 2:2-3, 1 John 5:19

Comment:

Other consequences sin brought to man include the following

  1. The sin of man separated him from God, he was cut off from God, Isaiah 59:1-2.
  2. Their sin made man to be cut away from the tree of life, Genesis 3:24.
  3. Their sin brought curses on man, Genesis 3:17, Deuteronomy 28:15.
  4. Their sin made man to be slaves to sin. John 8:34, Romans 6:16
  5. Their sin destroyed man’s innocence, and brought guilt, Genesis 3:6-7
  6. Their sin gave the devil access to control and manipulate man, I John 5:19, Ephesians 2:2-3
  7. Man lost his authority to rule and dominate the earth, Hebrews 2:6-9

Scriptural references

Isaiah 59:1-2

Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; nor His ear heavy, that it cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.

Genesis 3:24

“So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.”

John 5:7, 9, 14 .

The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.

And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked. And that day was the Sabbath.

Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, “See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you.”

Also check this account in Mark 2: 1-10

So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she too of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.

Ephesians 2:2-3:

In which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the fleshy. And of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.

1 John 5:19 NIV

“We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.”

 Hebrews 2:6-9 NKJV

“But one testified in a certain place, saying: “What is man that You are mindful of him, Or the son of man that You take care of him? You have made him a little lower than the angels; You have crowned him with glory and honor, And set him over the works of Your hands. You have put all things in subjection under his feet.” For in that He put all in subjection under him, He left nothing that is not put under him. But now we do not yet see all things put under him. But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone.”

Who now governs the earth after man lost his dominion due to disobedience?

Read: Luke  4:6,1 John 5:19 NIV, John 12:31, John 16:11, John 14:30, II Corinthians 4:4, John 18:36 KJV

Comment:

The devil now controls the earth and the kingdoms in it; he also has the power to influence and manipulate man. Christ Jesus did not contest the devil’s ownership of the earth during his temptation by the devil. Jesus also made this clear when Pilate was interrogating him that his kingdom is not of this world.  The devil’s mission is to steal, kill, and to destroy, and he is referred to as a thief (John 10:10).
